Five Worshippers Die in Captivity After Kwara Kidnapping

Five worshippers from the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo Oro, Kwara State, reportedly died in captivity following their abduction during an armed attack on March 22, 2026. The attack occurred while church services were ongoing, causing panic among congregants as gunmen fired shots.

Zubair Olaitan, the coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Security, confirmed the tragic development, stating that the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear. Among the deceased was Rachel Oluwaremilekun Omol, the wife of the church pastor.

The victims were kidnapped during a violent raid that sparked outrage and renewed concerns about insecurity in rural communities across Kwara State. Following the abduction, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of 1 billion naira, which was later reduced during negotiations.

Despite efforts by the families to secure the release of their loved ones, including raising funds and providing supplies, the victims were not released. Security agencies had assured residents of ongoing operations to rescue the abducted individuals.
