OYRTMA Officials Injured in Clash with Motorcyclists

On Monday, five officials from the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) were injured during a violent clash with motorcyclists at Soka Junction in the Oluyole Local Government Area. The confrontation occurred as OYRTMA officials attempted to enforce the state's QR code jacket policy for commercial motorcyclists, which aims to improve public safety and curb criminal activities.

The incident began when officials observed widespread non-compliance with the QR code regulations and attempted to halt riders. Aggrieved motorcyclists retaliated by attacking the officials with stones and wooden planks, resulting in injuries to several personnel.

Four agency vehicles were also severely damaged during the altercation. Adekoya Adesagba, the OYRTMA chairman, condemned the attack as barbaric and unacceptable, emphasizing the agency's commitment to enforcing regulations despite the violent resistance.

He called for support from stakeholders to educate motorcyclists on compliance with safety measures.
