Oyo Police Investigate Death of Motorcyclist Umar Yah

On May 2, 2026, at approximately 5:30 AM, a 25-year-old motorcyclist named Umar Yah was involved in a lone accident near a police border patrol checkpoint located along Oyo Road in Iseyin. Following the incident, he was promptly rescued and taken to Fadok Hospital for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries by 7:30 AM.

The incident sparked protests from commercial motorcyclists who gathered at the hospital, alleging police negligence at the checkpoint contributed to Yah's death. In response, the Oyo State Police Command, led by senior officers including Abimbola Olugbenga, assured the public of a thorough investigation.

Two officers from the border patrol unit have been detained pending the investigation's outcome. The police command emphasized their commitment to transparency and justice, stating that if any officers are found culpable, appropriate sanctions will be applied.

The situation has since been brought under control, and arrangements for Yah's burial according to Islamic rites are being made.
