Gunmen Kill Five in Ogun Dredging Site Attack

On June 8, 2026, five individuals, including a soldier, were killed when gunmen attacked a dredging site in Magbon Village, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State. The assailants targeted Chinese expatriates and reportedly took five hostages as human shields to evade capture.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that military personnel were present to protect the workers, but they sustained injuries during the attack. A joint security patrol, including the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Police, responded to a distress call, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire with the attackers.

Four hostages were later confirmed dead, and the assailants abandoned their mission, fleeing into the surrounding forest. The bodies of the deceased were taken to a mortuary in Sagamu, while injured personnel received medical attention.

Following the incident, security agencies intensified patrols in the area to restore calm and prevent further breaches.
