Nigeria's Seaport Drug Seizures Reach N3 Trillion in 5 Years

According to the latest statistics from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), drug seizures at Nigerian seaports from 2021 to 2025 have reached a staggering total of 2.55 million kilograms, with an estimated street value of N3 trillion. The data reveals a fluctuating trend in seizures: 96,690.90 kg in 2021, a sharp drop to 20,296.70 kg in 2022, a rise to 86,169.54 kg in 2023, and a dramatic surge to 1,745,422.75 kg in 2024.

The breakdown shows Apapa Port, Tin Island Port, and Port Harcourt Seaport as major sites for these seizures. Mr.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's Director of Media Advocacy, emphasized that the agency's operations have significantly raised the costs and risks for drug syndicates operating in Nigeria's maritime domain. The report underscores the ongoing challenges of drug trafficking in Nigeria, with the NDLEA committed to dismantling these networks through improved intelligence and collaboration with security agencies.
