Peter Obi Urges FG to Repair Roads Before New Projects

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritize the repair of existing roads before initiating new road construction projects. In a statement shared on Monday, Obi criticized the government's allocation of resources towards new projects while neglecting the urgent need for the rehabilitation and maintenance of existing road networks.

He highlighted the Asaba-Benin road as a crucial transport corridor that links several states, including Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Abia, Enugu, Benue, Kogi, and Lagos. Obi noted that significant sections of this highway have fallen into disrepair, resulting in persistent traffic congestion and challenges for commuters and transport operators.

He reiterated that improving the existing road network is essential for facilitating transportation and supporting economic activities across the country, arguing that the focus should be on repairing critical roads rather than launching new projects that offer limited immediate benefits.
