Flooding Displaces 300 and Destroys Homes in Ebonyi

A devastating flood in Amaegbu, Umuewodo Ndiachi Umobo, Umueze, in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has resulted in the destruction of over 60 houses and the displacement of approximately 300 individuals. The disaster began on Tuesday and has led to significant losses, including farmlands, vehicles, and personal belongings valued in millions of naira.

Chief Michael Uzor, a victim, reported ongoing destruction, with more houses collapsing as the flood persists. He noted that in the Ndi Ibezeukwu area alone, over 20 houses have fallen since the onset of the flooding.

Another victim, Mrs Joy Chikezie, expressed the overwhelming extent of the damage, stating that many residents have lost their homes and livelihoods. Prince Ette, the Secretary of Amaegbu community, confirmed that more than 50 houses were destroyed, with some residents unable to salvage any belongings.

The community is in urgent need of government intervention and relief assistance.
