Flooding in Yobe Claims Lives of Two Individuals

Following a heavy downpour, flooding in Damaturu, Yobe State, resulted in the deaths of two individuals: Isa Haruna, 38, a security personnel known as Mallam Matari, and 18-year-old Abba Kyari. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, stating that both victims drowned in the Pompomari area after torrential rainfall early on Monday caused extensive flooding across Malari, Pompomari, and nearby communities.

SEMA's Search and Rescue Team, in collaboration with the Yobe State Fire Service, responded to distress calls from residents but unfortunately found the victims deceased. Their bodies were taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Damaturu.

SEMA expressed concern over the recurring flooding risks during the rainy season and advised residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to remain vigilant and avoid flooded roads and waterways. The agency also urged parents to monitor their children during the ongoing school vacation to prevent accidents related to flooding.
