Flooding in Yobe Claims Lives of Security Personnel, Teen

On Tuesday, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed that flooding in the Pompomari area led to the deaths of two individuals: Isa Haruna, 38, a security personnel known as Mallam Matari, and 18-year-old Abba Kyari, who drowned during the incident. The flood occurred following an early morning downpour on Monday, affecting Malari, Pompomari, and surrounding communities.

SEMA's search and rescue team, in collaboration with the Yobe State Fire Service, responded to distress calls but found both victims already deceased. Their bodies were subsequently evacuated to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Damaturu.

SEMA has advised residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to be cautious during heavy rainfall and to avoid walking, playing, or driving through flooded roads, drainage channels, and waterways. The agency also urged parents to keep children away from rivers, streams, culverts, and floodwaters, noting that schools are currently on vacation.
