Benue Residents Urge Governor Alia to Address Flooding Issues

On Monday evening, heavy rainfall in Benue led to significant flooding that submerged various residential areas, including Achussa, New GRA, behind Radio Benue, Nyiman, Idye, Naka road, North Bank, Ankpa Quarters, Tilley Gyado-Terwase Agbadu, Wurukum, and Wadata. Residents reported that the flooding destroyed household items and foodstuff, leaving many commuters stranded as floodwaters overtook streets.

Frank Tion, a local resident, attributed the flooding to blocked drainage channels caused by ongoing road construction, calling on Governor Hyacinth Alia to instruct contractors to clear these channels for proper water flow. Tion criticized the indiscriminate closure of roads and drainage channels by construction companies as a contributing factor to the flooding.

Another resident, Theresa Andyson, noted that while the flooding could have been worse without existing large drainages built by the government, the numerous construction projects in the city likely exacerbated the situation by obstructing water channels.
