Bauchi Governor Appeals for Federal Aid Against Flooding

On Tuesday, the Bauchi State Government, represented by Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed's Deputy, Rt. Hon. Awwal Jatau, called for urgent intervention from the Federal Government to address severe flooding and erosion impacting approximately 1,800 communities in the state.

The governor highlighted the increasing vulnerability of these communities to climate-induced challenges, including flooding and gully erosion. During the commissioning of newly installed solar-powered facilities and improved water supply infrastructure at the Wikki Camp of the Yankari Game Reserve, he emphasized the need for massive support to mitigate the consequences of these environmental issues.

The governor also noted that the upgraded facilities would enhance tourism, create economic opportunities, and improve the local economy. The solarisation project cost N2,693,394,939, while the renovation of chalets and accommodation structures amounted to N166,158,558.46.

The improved water supply project was executed for N110 million, all aimed at fostering a competitive tourism environment and stimulating local enterprises.
