HYPPADEC Applauds FG's N80bn Flood Mitigation Efforts

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has praised the Federal Government for its approval of an N80 billion intervention aimed at mitigating the impacts of anticipated flooding across vulnerable communities this year. During a three-day management consultative meeting in Ilorin, Managing Director Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa expressed that while the funding is commendable, it may not be sufficient to address the expected magnitude of flooding challenges.

Yelwa emphasized the need for additional resources to further protect vulnerable communities. HYPPADEC is also initiating a flood preparedness campaign and has begun constructing resettlement houses for communities severely affected by flooding.

Despite facing significant financial constraints, the commission aims to fulfill its statutory mandate and improve project delivery through stronger collaboration with state governments. Yelwa reiterated the importance of a "no work, no pay" policy to promote discipline among staff and ensure accountability.
