HYPPADEC Launches Flood Prevention Efforts in Kebbi

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has initiated the desilting and evacuation of 6,000 linear meters of waterways in flood-prone areas, specifically targeting the Argungu water collector in Kebbi State. This announcement was made by the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama Ila Muhammadu Mera.

The visit also served to inform the Emir about a 2026 flood awareness advocacy campaign aimed at mobilizing community support and encouraging residents to heed early warnings and adopt necessary precautionary measures against flooding. As part of the initiative, the Emir was presented with 100 modern life jackets to enhance water transport safety and reduce drowning incidents in the community.

The Emir commended HYPPADEC for its continuous efforts to mitigate the impact of flooding on local communities.
