N-HYPPADEC Distributes Life Jackets, Desilts Drainages in Kaduna

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed 1,250 life jackets to riverine communities and desilted more than 40,000 linear metres of drainages and culverts in Kaduna State. This initiative aims to mitigate flooding and enhance the livelihoods of local residents.

Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of N-HYPPADEC, made this announcement on Monday during a stakeholders’ interactive session in Kaduna. He emphasized that these interventions are part of the commission's mandate to address ecological, environmental, and socio-economic challenges faced by communities hosting hydroelectric power infrastructure.

Yelwa also highlighted additional projects in Kaduna, including the provision of an operational flying boat for emergency response, establishment of a tree nursery, construction of solar-powered boreholes, and distribution of power tillers to farmers. He noted that sustained flood awareness campaigns have been conducted to reduce flooding impacts.
