Shettima Directs NEMA, AATF to Activate Flood Response

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima directed the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to implement early action measures to address flooding in Nigeria. During a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima insisted on proactive preparedness to combat climate-related disasters, stating that the government must act early to reduce losses and protect vulnerable communities.

He emphasized the importance of establishing clear priorities and coordinating actions among relevant agencies. Shettima, who chairs the AATF, called for immediate reviews of budget lines and resource allocations to ensure timely implementation of these measures.

He urged state governors to actively participate in these efforts, highlighting that success requires ownership at the subnational level. Additionally, he noted the need for a mechanism to anticipate hazards and consolidate data for effective decision-making.

The Vice President's directives aim to enhance Nigeria's capacity to respond to flooding and other climate-related challenges.
