Shettima Activates Early Action Platform Against Flooding

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima convened a meeting to direct the activation of an early action coordination platform aimed at combating flooding in Nigeria. He instructed the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately update budget lines and establish clear priorities for implementation.

Shettima emphasized the necessity of shifting from reactive to proactive responses to climate-related disasters, noting that the government must act early to mitigate losses and protect vulnerable communities. He called for close collaboration among relevant agencies and urged state governments to actively participate in these initiatives.

The Vice President also highlighted the importance of leveraging existing national social registries and digital payment platforms to enhance anticipatory actions. He commended the Nigerian government for approving funds for these initiatives, underscoring the political commitment to ownership and action at all levels of governance.
