Nasarawa Government Responds to Flooding Crisis in Doma

The Nasarawa State Government confirmed that severe flooding in the Doma Local Government Area has displaced residents in more than 18 communities. Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Nawani Aboki, described the flooding as a major humanitarian crisis, with significant destruction of buildings and farmlands in the Eke Development Area.
Governor Abdullahi Sule has directed the Director-General of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency to assess the damage. Aboki visited the affected areas with the Doma Local Government Chairman to express sympathy to residents.
Displaced individuals are currently taking refuge in higher ground communities such as Agyema, Agbachi, and Rukubi. The influx of displaced persons has increased pressure on host communities.
The government is preparing to provide relief materials to prevent disease outbreaks and has advised residents in low-lying areas to relocate. Aboki cautioned against returning home due to uncertainty regarding potential water release from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
