FMC Abeokuta Resident Doctors Launch Five-Day Strike

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta has commenced a five-day warning strike to advocate for better working conditions. This decision was communicated through a communique signed by President Dr Olanipekun Quadri and General Secretary Dr Olorunfemi Solomon.

The ARD's demands include addressing unresolved welfare and security concerns, particularly the need for adequate armed security personnel in vulnerable areas of the hospital, especially the Emergency Treatment Room (ETR). They also called for improved security measures, including functional CCTV cameras and better lighting in poorly illuminated areas used by healthcare workers during night shifts.

The ARD emphasized that this warning strike does not affect the ongoing 21-day ultimatum previously issued to the hospital management. The strike is a response to the increasing incidents of assaults against healthcare workers, creating a hostile working environment.
