FOBTOB Urges Support for Nigeria's Food Industry Growth

Mr. Jimoh Oyibo, the President of the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (FOBTOB), addressed the challenges facing Nigeria's food industry during the 114th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

He highlighted the industry's reliance on imported raw materials, which makes it vulnerable to foreign exchange fluctuations and rising operational costs. Oyibo, who is also the Deputy President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Nigeria, pointed out recent regulatory measures affecting sachet packaging products below 200 milliliters, which pose additional challenges for businesses.

He stressed the importance of infrastructure development, reliable energy supply, and improving consumer purchasing capacity as critical areas needing attention. Oyibo acknowledged the significance of the new national minimum wage and the necessity for ongoing dialogue between employers and workers to ensure fair remuneration.

He urged workers to embrace continuous learning and skill development to remain competitive in the evolving global economy.
