Yusuf Tuggar, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Nigeria, has officially resigned from his position to enter the race for the governorship of Bauchi State in the upcoming 2027 elections. His resignation was confirmed on a Monday, with a letter submitted to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr.

Abubakar Kana. Tuggar expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the country and acknowledged the support he received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic community during his tenure.

He credited his time in office with advancing Nigeria's foreign policy objectives, which included people-centered diplomacy, humanitarian efforts, and increased engagement with the Nigerian diaspora. Tuggar's resignation aligns with the March 31 deadline set for political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 elections, as stipulated by the Electoral Act.
