Forensics Institute Expands Council to Combat Cybercrime

The Forensics Institute of Nigeria (CIFCFin) has expanded its governing council by including representatives from engineering and technology regulatory bodies, specifically the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (CORAN) and the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) (CPN). This decision, announced by CIFCFin's Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr.

Isa Salifu, aims to strengthen efforts to combat cybercrime, infrastructure failures, and fraud across key sectors. The collaboration is expected to address significant financial losses due to cybercrime and improve the integrity of digital infrastructure, including payment gateways and financial institutions.

The initiative aligns with the CIFCFin Establishment Act of 2022, which empowers the institute to create a board for professional standards and ensure comprehensive coverage of forensic knowledge across various domains. The council will include representatives from multiple federal ministries and aims to promote cross-sector collaboration in forensic development and cybersecurity.
