Babachir Lawal Joins NDC, Backs Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) three months prior. Lawal joined the NDC on Tuesday following a meeting with NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, in Abuja.

He resigned from the ADC on June 1, citing concerns over the party's presidential primary process, which he claimed favored Atiku Abubakar. Lawal has previously supported a potential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

He expressed that his decision to join the NDC was motivated by the pressing issues facing Nigeria, including insecurity and hunger. Lawal aims to contribute to the NDC's goal of supporting the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and believes this partnership will lead to a new direction for Nigeria.

Dickson praised Lawal's political experience, indicating he would oversee campaign activities in the North-East.
