UBA's Former Chairman Chief Israel C. Ogbu Dies at 99

Chief Israel C. Ogbu, the former chairman of UBA Plc, died peacefully at the age of 99.

Born on February 18, 1927, in Onicha Olona, Delta State, Ogbu's professional journey began in the Federal Civil Service before he furthered his studies in the United Kingdom. He built a distinguished career, rising to senior management at the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON) until his retirement in 1988.

Ogbu joined the UBA board in 2005 as a non-executive director and was appointed chairman in 2011, a role he held with dignity and strategic foresight until his retirement in 2013. His tenure was marked by steady leadership that reinforced strong corporate governance and long-term sustainability for the bank.

Ogbu was also a patriarch and mentor to his family, including Dr. Awel Elumelu and Mr.

Toni Elumelu. UBA Group expressed heartfelt condolences to his family, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to Nigeria's corporate landscape.
