Four Dead in Lagos Expressway Crash Involving Minibus

A tragic road accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State resulted in the deaths of four male passengers and serious injuries to four others. The crash involved a Howo truck, registered as KNN 313 YL, and a commercial minibus, commonly referred to as a "korop." According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred over the weekend opposite Beachwood Shapati, along the busy corridor.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the articulated truck lost control, veering across the carriageway and colliding with the oncoming minibus. The impact was catastrophic, trapping passengers within the wreckage.

LASTMA officials reported that emergency responders were mobilized to extricate the victims, with the injured taken to Hamon Royal Hospital for urgent medical treatment, while the deceased were evacuated to Shenci Hospital morgue. The Nigeria Police Force maintained order at the scene and assured that an investigation into the cause of the accident would be conducted.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakar Oki expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.
