Ex-Gov Sylva Faces Fraud Allegations and Possible Absentia Arraignment

Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva is under scrutiny for alleged involvement in a fraud case amounting to 14,859,257 naira. The case also links him to a reported coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu.

Despite denying any involvement in the coup plot, Sylva may face arraignment in absentia by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The investigation, which led to the arrest of 16 military officials, is ongoing.

Sylva's special assistant, Julius Bokoru, has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. Interpol has been alerted to facilitate Sylva's arrest, as he is currently outside the country.

The EFCC is working with international agencies to bring Sylva to trial. The case highlights the intersection of corruption, legal proceedings, and national security concerns.
