FRC Urges Nigeria Customs to Submit Financial Statements

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), led by Executive Chairman Charl Chukwuemeka Abana, expressed significant concern regarding the Nigeria Customs Service's (NC) failure to submit its audited financial statements since 2019, which contravenes the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) of 2007. During a meeting in Abuja, Abana emphasized the necessity for the NC to fully comply with the FRA by submitting outstanding audit accounts to ensure timely remittance of its operational surplus to the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) as required by law.

FRC's Deputy Director of Strategic Communications, Bede Ogueri Anyanwu, urged the NC to intensify its revenue-generating efforts and uphold principles of transparency and prudent financial management. The FRC noted that continued non-compliance by government agencies negatively impacts the federal government's fiscal management operations.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a collaborative relationship with the NC to promote fiscal discipline and accountability.
