NCC to Provide 100MB Daily Data for Students from 2026

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced a new initiative to provide 100 megabytes of free daily data to students, set to commence on October 1, 2026. Ayuba Shuaibu, the NCC Director of Policy, Competition and Economic Analysis, stated that the Federal Government and the NCC will collaborate to approve and whitelist educational platforms eligible for this data scheme.

The eligible platforms fall into six categories: learning management systems, digital libraries, educational repositories, teacher development platforms, technical training platforms, and vocational training platforms. Only platforms that receive joint approval from the Federal Ministry and the NCC will be whitelisted under this zero-rated data arrangement.

This initiative will allow students to access approved platforms without the data usage counting against their personal data balance, thereby addressing the barriers to online educational resources faced by many learners in public institutions due to internet connectivity costs.
