Badenoch Critiques UK Abstention on UN Slavery Resolution

Kemi Badenoch, a member of the UK Conservative Party, has publicly criticized the UK government's decision to abstain from a significant United Nations resolution that addresses the legacy of slavery. This resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly with 123 votes in favor, three against, and 52 abstentions, with the UK joining 51 other countries in abstaining.

It urges member states to consider issuing formal apologies for their roles in the transatlantic slave trade and to develop a reparations framework.

Badenoch's comments come amid ongoing debates about Britain's historical involvement in slavery and the economic benefits derived from it. She has faced criticism for her previous statements regarding reparations, which have highlighted the contentious nature of this issue in contemporary politics.
