Abuja Police Investigate Mary Habila's Controversial Death

The Abuja Police Authority has commenced an investigation into the death of Mary Habila, a health worker who died under controversial circumstances at the residence of Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, in Ebonyi State. Habila was found unresponsive on June 27 at Umahi's private residence in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, and was later confirmed dead at a medical facility.

Initial investigations by the Ebonyi State Police Command had planned for a post-mortem examination, but this was complicated by Habila's family's opposition to an autopsy. Despite this, police authorities insisted on a forensic examination due to the case's sensitive nature.

Minister Umahi publicly denied any involvement in Habila's death, stating he had nothing to hide and supported a thorough investigation. He described Habila as a dedicated member of his medical team and expressed shock over her death.

The investigation will include transferring Habila's remains to Abuja for forensic procedures.
