Tension Rises in Jos After Curfew Relaxation Amid Attacks

Tension has escalated in Jos, Plateau State, after the government relaxed a 48-hour curfew imposed due to violent attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least 28 individuals. The Plateau State government announced that the curfew would now run from 7 AM to 3 PM daily, effective April 1, 2026, to allow residents to engage in normal activities.

However, the relaxation of the curfew did not alleviate fears, as reports emerged of hoodlums attacking motorists and passersby in various parts of the city, including near the University of Jos. The University of Jos Alumni Association, represented by President Peter Shamaki, urged the government and security agencies to enhance security presence on campus and surrounding areas.

Residents called for increased security patrols and vigilance, particularly around student hostels and major access routes. The Plateau State Police Command has been contacted for comments but has not yet responded.

The situation remains tense as residents seek to maintain peace and security in the area.
