PHC Revitalization Transforms Healthcare in Rural Bauchi

The revitalization of primary health care in rural Bauchi State, particularly in Bilkicheri Ward and Ita Gadau Local Government Area, is transforming healthcare access and quality. Facilities like Gamsha PHC, managed by Fatima Umar Adam, have been equipped with solar power, ensuring reliable electricity for 24-hour service delivery.

This upgrade has allowed healthcare workers to provide antenatal care and immunization services more effectively, with Gamsha PHC witnessing an increase from fewer than 20 to 100 childhood immunizations monthly. The facility serves an estimated population of 28,000 people, including neighboring communities.

Challenges such as poor infrastructure and difficult terrain have been addressed through community mobilization and outreach programs, which have improved vaccination acceptance and reduced hesitancy. Health worker Suratu Muhammadu noted that the previous lack of electricity made it challenging to provide timely care, but the new power supply has significantly enhanced service delivery and patient safety.
