FG Launches Rehabilitation Services at Doya Healthcare Centre

The Federal Government of Nigeria launched rehabilitation services at Doya Primary Healthcare Centre in Bauchi State, with Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, representing the initiative.

During the launch, he disclosed a strategy recognizing that 210 million Africans require rehabilitation services, with 63 million unable to access them. He called upon member states to integrate rehabilitation at all levels of healthcare, particularly in primary health care, to strengthen the workforce and develop information systems.

The minister approved a national minimum benchmark framework for integrated rehabilitation services, which will guide implementation across the country to ensure quality and consistency. Dr.

Jame Lalu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Empowering Persons with Disabilities, provided equipment and a one-year salary for a physiotherapist to deliver services at the centre. Prof.

Rufai Yusuf Ahmad, Registrar and CEO of the Nigerian Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board, reaffirmed the board's commitment to ensuring quality and ethical rehabilitation services in Nigeria.
