Nigeria's Passport Reform Revolutionizes Renewal in UK

The Nigerian passport reform has transformed the renewal process for Nigerians residing in the UK, as reported by various individuals across cities such as Birmingham, Coventry, Newport, Leeds, Essex, and London. The contactless passport renewal system, introduced by the Nigerian Immigration Service under the Ministry of Interior, has enabled applicants to receive their passports at home within days, a stark contrast to the previous system that often took months.

For instance, Timileyin Gbenga from Birmingham noted that his passport renewal previously took six months, while the new system delivered his passport in less than two weeks. Adeku Adeola Victoria from Essex experienced a complete renewal in about a week and encouraged friends to apply online instead of traveling to London.

Dr. Adekunl Shonola, a senior lecturer familiar with the British-Nigerian system, remarked that Nigeria is moving closer to international standards in passport administration.

This reform addresses long-standing issues faced by the Nigerian diaspora, such as high transport costs and bureaucratic delays.
