Fubara Denies Rift with Rivers Lawmakers Over Budget

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has addressed reports of a renewed disagreement with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly concerning the delay in passing the 2026 Appropriation Bill. He characterized these reports as misleading, asserting that the N1.854 trillion budget proposal is currently undergoing the standard legislative process.

This clarification was made in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, who emphasized Fubara's commitment to a collaborative relationship with the lawmakers. The governor presented the budget, titled "Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development," to the Assembly on July 10, and is awaiting its passage.

Despite concerns over the budget's status, a source within the Assembly indicated that delays may stem from alleged agreements between Fubara and the lawmakers regarding benefits and entitlements, which the governor has not fully honored. This has reportedly led to a lack of trust complicating the legislative process, contrasting with the official stance that no dispute exists.
