Tricycle Fares Rise in FCT Amid Fuel Price Surge

Commercial tricycle operators in the Federal Capital Territory have increased fares on several routes following a rise in petrol prices to between N1,410 and N1,450 per litre. This adjustment comes after an N85 increase in the gantry price set by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which rose from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre, amid increasing global crude oil prices.

Fares have surged on routes such as Gudu to Lokogoma Junction from N200 to N300, and Kabusa Junction to Apo Roundabout from N300 to N400. Operators like Saidu Mohamed and Haruna Abdullahi cited rising petrol and maintenance costs as reasons for the fare hike.

Commuters expressed concern over the financial strain, with individuals like Daniel Aaron and Tony Akinbode reporting difficulties in affording transportation and basic necessities. Akinbode urged the Federal Government to intervene to stabilize fuel prices.

The fare increases have been implemented with little notice, forcing commuters to adjust their transportation budgets significantly.
