FCT Residents Struggle as Fuel Prices Surge

Residents across various communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are lamenting the economic hardship caused by persistent fuel price hikes. Interviews conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria revealed that petrol now sells for between N1,450 and N1,500 per litre at many filling stations in Abuja, a rise from about N1,200 to N1,280 previously.

Commercial driver Mr. Sunny Peter noted that transport fares have increased significantly, with fares from Dei-Dei to Berger now costing between N1,200 and N1,500, compared to N900 and N1,000 earlier. Civil servant Mrs. Adaeze Okoli expressed concern that rising transport costs consume a large portion of her salary, leaving little for other necessities.

Other residents, including Mr. Abdullahi Sani and Mrs. Esther Okeke, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the broader impact on family budgets and daily living. Many called on the government to implement measures to stabilize fuel prices and improve public transportation options.
