Governors Reject Blame for Fuel Subsidy Fund Mismanagement

The 36 state governors, represented by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, have dismissed allegations of failing to account for funds received after the removal of the petrol subsidy. Diri made this statement on Thursday during a press briefing following the Nigeria Governors’ Forum's third meeting in Abuja, where he read a communique on behalf of the NGF Chairman, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The governors stated they would not accept responsibility for claims of mismanagement regarding subsidy removal funds. The meeting also addressed the rising transportation costs affecting Nigerians due to the subsidy removal.

The governors supported the proposed National Affordable CNG Transit Programme (NACTP), aimed at converting vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to reduce transportation costs. Diri noted that cheaper transportation would positively impact the prices of goods, particularly agricultural products, as transportation costs are a significant factor in pricing.
