Governors Aim to Reduce Transport Costs with CNG Vehicles

During the third meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) held on Wednesday night at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja, governors from all 36 states resolved to explore financing and expanding the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicles. This initiative aims to reduce transportation costs and alleviate the rising prices of goods and services.

The governors agreed to collaborate with private investors to accelerate the conversion of vehicles to CNG and expand the necessary infrastructure. The resolution followed a presentation on the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme, which is designed to lower operating costs and reduce transport fares for commuters.

In a communique signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governors emphasized state support for vehicle conversions and CNG-powered fleets. Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri stated that this initiative could help address economic pressures from the removal of fuel subsidies, as cheaper transportation would positively impact various sectors of the economy.
