ECOWAS Appoints New Officials for 2026-2030 Term

During the 69th ordinary session of ECOWAS heads of state held in Sierra Leone, new appointments were approved for various strategic positions within the organization for the period 2026-2030. The new judges for the ECOWAS Court of Justice include Awa Bah from Gambia, Charlyn Brumskin from Liberia, D.

Sir Aihou from Benin, and Henrietta Didigu from Nigeria. The current Chief Registrar of the ECOWAS Court, Yaouza Ouro Sama from Togo, will also continue in his role.

Additionally, five new commissioners were appointed to replace outgoing commissioners whose tenures have expired. The new commissioners are Mr.

Francess Alghali from Sierra Leone (Political Affairs, Peace and Security), Mr. Dehpu Zuo from Liberia (Economic Affairs, Agriculture), Dr.

Kalil Sylla from Côte d'Ivoire (Internal Services), Mr. Amin Suleiman from Ghana (Infrastructure, Energy, Digitalization), and Prof.

Nassir Bako Arifari from Benin (Human Development, Social Affairs). The session also welcomed the successor to Dr.

Omar Touray, Gen. Biram Diop from Senegal, as the new ECOWAS Commission President.
