ECOWAS Court Launches Digital Case Management System

The ECOWAS Court of Justice unveiled a digital case management system on a date not specified, during a ceremony in Abuja, marking a significant step towards strengthening judicial integration and improving access to justice across the region. Chief Registrar Yaouza Ouro Sama described the platform as a means to harmonize judicial processes among member states, aiming to streamline case management, reduce delays, eliminate bottlenecks, and enhance transparency with real-time access to case information for stakeholders.
The court anticipates that at least 80% of the legal profession will register on the platform within six months, with a target to establish a fully digital court by 2030. Ricardo Goncalv, President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, emphasized that while technology will enhance judicial delivery, it will not replace judicial decision-making, which remains grounded in law and judicial independence.
The system is designed to be multilingual and will significantly reduce administrative delays and bureaucratic procedures.
