NURTW Organising Secretary Toba Ajiboye Killed in Lagos

Toba Ajiboye, known as Toba Ijaya, was the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). He succumbed to gunshot injuries after unidentified gunmen attacked his vehicle in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on Sunday.

His burial on Tuesday was attended by family, political associates, transport workers, and sympathisers. Ajiboye's death adds to a troubling history of high-profile killings within the NURTW, often attributed to political rivalry, leadership disputes, and gang violence.

Notable past incidents include the assassination of Alhaji Saula Saka, the then Lagos State Chairman of the NURTW, on January 6, 2008, and the killing of Azeez Otun, also known as Ashake, on September 20, 2014, during violent clashes after a political rally. Other victims include Olayemi Eniola, who died in April 2015, and Kunle Mamowora, shot dead in Oshodi, with many killings remaining unresolved and linked to ongoing tensions within the union.
