Senate Rejects El-Rufai's Ministerial Nomination Explained

Femi Fani-Kayode revealed that the Senate rejected Nasir El-Rufai's ministerial nomination in 2023 due to multiple petitions submitted by different religious groups from Kaduna State, including Shia Muslims, Tijaniya Muslims, and Christians. These petitions alleged that El-Rufai had persecuted various groups during his tenure as governor, making it impossible for the Senate to approve his nomination.

Fani-Kayode refuted widespread claims that the rejection was due to a political conspiracy involving top government officials, labeling such narratives as baseless and misleading. He highlighted that El-Rufai faced serious allegations, including the demolition of orphanages and the destruction of thousands of structures during urban renewal exercises.

Furthermore, El-Rufai is currently embroiled in multiple legal battles related to alleged money laundering and corrupt practices, which Fani-Kayode attributed to actions taken during his time in public office.
