FUTA Hosts Landmark Green Microbiology Summit 2026

Dr. Adenike Akinsemolu, an alumna of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), returned on July 16, 2026, to host the Landmark Green Microbiology Summit.

This event was part of the inaugural Society of Green Microbiology and took place from July 15 to 18, 2026. The summit gathered scientists, industry professionals, policymakers, and students to explore the role of microorganisms in building a sustainable future.

Akinsemolu delivered a public lecture titled "Green Microbiology: A Microbial Blueprint to Change the Planet," discussing the historical relationship between humans and microorganisms and their essential roles in health, food production, and environmental restoration. She emphasized the need for new curricula and specialized research laboratories in green microbiology.

The event was hosted by FUTA's Department of Microbiology, with Professor Adenik Temidayo Oladiji serving as chief host and Professor Daniel J. Arotupin delivering welcome remarks.

Dr. Helen Onyeaka from the University of Birmingham co-chaired the summit.
