Dr. Olugbenga A. Awe Appointed Pro-Chancellor of FUTA

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed Dr. Olugbenga A. Awe as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.

This appointment was communicated in an official letter dated July 30, 2026, signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and took effect on July 29, 2026. Dr. Awe succeeds Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, who has been appointed as Nigeria’s ambassador to South Korea.

Dr. Awe is a United States-based physician, academic, and entrepreneur with extensive experience in medicine and higher education. He studied at the University of Lagos and completed postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Internal Medicine.

Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine in the United States. In his new role, Dr. Awe will collaborate with the governing council on the administration, development, and overall direction of the institution, leveraging his experience in higher education.
