FUTO, ABU to Compete at Enactus World Cup in Brazil

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), have secured spots at the Enactus World Cup in Brazil after winning the 2026 Enactus Nigeria National Competition held in Lagos. FUTO excelled in two categories, with its biofuel innovation winning the Enactus Early-Stage Final and its ALTAR robot, designed to detect structural failures, winning the Julius Berger Innovation Challenge.

ABU won the Enactus Advanced-Stage Competition Final with its NeemPest biopesticide, which effectively eliminates Tuta absoluta within 48 hours, and its TomPa project, which processes surplus tomatoes into powder and puree. The competition featured projects from 33 universities, and the winning teams will now compete against teams from 35 countries at the World Cup.

Michael Ajayi, Country Director of Enactus Nigeria, emphasized the students' ability to apply their education to real-world problems, while Casey Bonfield from the US Consulate General praised the initiative for preparing students for the global marketplace.
