NiMet and University of Abuja Enhance Climate Partnership

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the University of Abuja have deepened their collaboration on a Smart Climate Project. This initiative was discussed during a visit by Vice Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi and his management team to NiMet, where they met with Director General and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Charles Anosike.

The discussions focused on advancing joint research, remote sensing, and climate data utilization, with an emphasis on academic and industry linkages. Prof. Anosike congratulated Prof. Fawehinmi on his appointment as substantive Vice Chancellor and noted the importance of closer institutional ties, describing the University of Abuja as NiMet's closest academic partner.

He urged the university to maintain NiMet's support for weather stations and pledged to establish new weather stations to enhance climate service delivery. The collaboration aims to provide climate information access for students, researchers, farmers, and planners.
