University of Abuja and NiMet Enhance Climate Partnership

The University of Abuja and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) are strengthening their partnership to advance a smart climate project. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof.

Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, led a management team in a courtesy visit to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charl Anosike.

The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including joint research, remote sensing, Geographic Information (GI) tools, weather stations, and climate data. Prof.

Anosike congratulated Prof. Fawehinmi on his appointment as substantive Vice Chancellor and emphasized the importance of closer institutional ties, noting that NiMet is one of the university's closest academic partners.

He highlighted NiMet's previous support in developing weather stations and urged the university to maintain this support to ensure the functionality of these stations for teaching and research. The partnership aims to establish new weather stations and improve access to climate information for students, researchers, farmers, and planners.
