FUTO Launches SciDial to Enhance Science Communication

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) unveiled the SciDial platform, a digital tool aimed at improving science communication in Nigeria. This initiative is part of a multi-state study funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under its National Research Fund.
The project, titled ‘Strategies to Overcome the Challenges of Science Communication in Nigeria: Towards Domesticating Science for Societal Benefits (SciComm FUTO)’, was conducted at the Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS) of FUTO. The study surveyed 2,208 individuals across four states, revealing a disconnect between researchers and potential users regarding information sharing.
While 75-91 percent of respondents expressed willingness to use research findings, 21-49 percent rarely sought them out. Dr. Kanayo Lucy Oguzie, the principal investigator, emphasized the mismatch in communication channels.
The launch event attracted over 200 participants from various sectors. Dr. Ikechukwu Ayogu demonstrated the SciDial platform, transitioning from research findings to practical application.
