TETFund Urges Researchers to Innovate for Society

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has called on Nigerian academics and researchers to shift their focus from merely publishing scholarly papers to developing practical innovations that can solve societal problems, create jobs, and generate wealth. This challenge was presented by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Dr Sonny Echono, through the Assistant Director of Research and Development, Dr Hadiza Ismail, during the closing ceremony of the 35th cohort of the Research for Impact Initiative (R4i) in Abuja.
Echono stated that the initiative, in partnership with Innov8 Hub, aims to institutionalize research and development in public tertiary institutions and enhance collaboration among academia, industry, and government. He highlighted the importance of developing home-grown technologies and announced the second edition of the TETFund National Research Fair, scheduled for November 23 to 27, 2026, where researchers can exhibit their innovations and engage with industry stakeholders.
