Gambari Declares Candidacy for Kwara Governorship Race

Malam Omar Bolaji Gambari has officially declared his intent to run for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State, representing the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This announcement was made during a press conference in Ilorin on Monday.

Gambari, the son of veteran diplomat and former United Nations Secretary-General Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, rejected claims that the opposition, particularly the PDP, is weak against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He asserted that the political landscape in Kwara is evolving, with various political actors from major parties beginning to subtly consult on their positions for the upcoming race.

Gambari stressed that the PDP remains a vibrant and active force in Kwara, fully prepared to challenge the ruling party in the next electoral cycle. He emphasized the importance of conducting the elections in a fair and transparent atmosphere, believing that a level playing field will enable the PDP to thrive and command support from the electorate.
